Leodegraunce: Kyle, please tell Leodegraunce readers a bit about your background.

Kyle Hemmings: I was trained in healthcare. I have a college background in U.S. history and psychology. I received an MFA in creative writing from National University in 2006. I also took classes at Gotham in fiction and poetry.

Leodegraunce: How long have you written flash fiction and what drew you to the genre?

Kyle Hemmings: I've written flash for about four years now. At Zoetrope, I joined a wonderful flash fiction writing community led by Rich Osgood. It's called The Flash Factory. There are many talented writers there.

Leodegraunce: What are some of your recent works?
 
Kyle Hemmings:I have some chapbooks out which inclue flash fictions as well as other genres like poetry. Cat People came out earlier this year, published by Scars Publications. Most of the pieces there have been published in zines like Bluestem, DiddleDog, Unlikely Stories, and elsewhere. Avenue C is another collection of hybrid pieces. I also have new chapbook coming out in December called Tokyo Girls in Science Fiction that will published by NAP magazine.

Leodegraunce: What are some of your writing plans for 2011?

Kyle Hemmings: I will continue to write flash and poetry and perhaps veer more into art, maybe consider a collection of writings with drawings.

Leodegraunce: What is your top writing tip for aspiring authors?

Kyle Hemmings: Write from the heart.
